It can be spelled both ways, though I've seen it spelled paralyzed more often.
It's the same thing as, say, civilization/civilisation. Americans use the z rather than the s.
And that is how you spell gaze/gazed.

I looked into the dictionree
One of my fav'rite tricks,
and found the answer sitting there
page two thousand ninety six.
If you're strictly British
Then use S in paralysed
But if you're from across the pond
A zee is more your size.
I agree with all the others
About the Z in gaze
But always use the book of words
If you are in a daze.
I often check my Oxford
If there's owt that I need telling
For even I can make mistakes
in grammar or in speling!

It depends which side of the pond you hail from. For Americans it is paralyzed. and yes, gazed is correct.

You are getting the conflict of American English versus British English. Both are correct but you will find that programs such as "Word" will accept one but not the other. There are even differences in terms such as amebiasis and the British form as amaebiasis and hemolytic opposed to haemolytic.

PARALYZED is U.S. spelling and PARALYSED is British spelling. Gaze is spelled this way in both systems.

International english has an S, American English with a z.
......gazed is right.
And apparently, Americans invented Aluminum. So everyone ELSE pronounces it wrong
