Out of Ohio comes the story of a brave and heroic little 10-year-old boy who ran away from his demented parents and took his younger brother with him. They were found on a stranger's porch some distance away. The 10-year-old only weighed 61 lbs. There was no report on the younger brother. The older boy reported he was tired of being locked in a dog cage where he was forced to wear an electronic dog collar, which was used to shock him. His parents previously had a daughter who died mysteriously and child protective services say they are taking another look at that case. Isn't it a shame that they didn't take a better look the first time? You can read the whole story on the 5/05/07 edition of The Drudge Report.

Yes, child abuse is out of control, and not only in this form, but sexual abuse as well. I work in a place where i see victims like this every day. There are so many parents that just SHOULD NOT BE parents, that want nothing more than to take all their hatred of the world out on their children, so that the child grows up with it as well.

Of corse, you can't tell a bad parent that they are so, they will not listen. Unfortunately, what we call child abuse has probably been going on since the beggining of time, the world didn't just become this screwed up over night, and there is probably little anyone can do to help the situation except to react as best as possible and try and do the best we can to make sure occurances do not get repeated.

I chanced upon an online video (sorry, forgot the site) showing an 8yr old boy from Afghanistan formerly ruled by Taliban. For some reason the boy was caught stealing and the punishment was his hand rolled-over by a jeep. I saw the pain suffered by the boy from those animals in the name of 'religion' (excuse me). I almost cried during my work. I'm a father of a 5yr old boy and I swear I'll do anything to protect my child. I should not brought this story here because some may cry for religiuos persecution, but what the heck, above religion that boy is first and foremost an innocent human. And yes, I cry for him here for others to have mercy.

Child abuse has always been around. For centuries, many societies thought children were property that could be bought and sold, and used like animals. People in the US actually started to think it was socially unacceptable to talk about a few decades ago, and the myth was that only poor, lower-class people beat or raped their kids. Since the 1970's, it's become more acceptable to talk about many previously "unmentionable" topics that "couldn't" be happening in our society, like pedophilia, incest, rape, domestic violence, and child neglect. Until you can talk about a problem, it's difficult to do something about it. It's a painful process, but we won't stop violence in our society until we stop it from happening in our own homes.
