i'm not looking for a text book restoration. i want to take this beautiful classic car and modernize it. update the ammenities and technology while keeping the integrity of the design.

i want to give it a new effecient engine and transmission and also incorporate a digital interface to monitor liquid pressures, temperatures, levels, diagnostics and also estimates of EPA, fuel consumption, SatNav, CC etc [just normal everyday luxuries on our cars].

So does anyone know of any good information sources or businesses with experience in this kind of restoration?

use the engine/ transmission and electronics out of a late eighties toyota cresseda/supra and while the jag body is much heavier you will still get about 15-17 mpg around town and maybe 25-30 on the road with the overdrive good luck this could be an interesting project especially if a turbo supra engine is used. it has been my experience that if you want it done right you should do it yourself if you lack the metal working skills needed [ these jobs can be farmed out but it gets expensive fast ] acquiring good fabrication skills takes a lifetime not to mention electrical and plumbing skills, so don't jump at the first shop that says it's available go on the shop floor and inspect the facility. is it clean ? are there other "worthy" cars there? is the quality of work that you see before you worthy of your project? how long before they can start on yours, are the current crop of cars covered with a thick coat of dust? and how many shop hours into it will they require a draw[ more money] if any of these answers fall into the negative category you should probably walk away from that shop before getting started good luck but most of all have fun.

nicely, there are 3 or 4 issues which will be incorrect. the first, and likely, is that the diverter mechanism that shunts air by heater middle isn't operating suitable. it really is basically a damper that channels air by the heater middle in a unmarried position, and deflects it away at the same time as warmth isn't required. If it fails to open, no air skill no warmth move. the 2d is that the change itself is defective, and so the diverter isn't recieving the present to operate. a third is a nasty or clogged heater middle, yet on the completed this is totally unusual. nonetheless yet another is that you would no longer comprehend a thanks to apply the controls suitable, which on both Jags I own replaced into no longer an intuitive layout. on the sprint of my VDP and XK8 there's a button for a/c and a button marked "automobile." If warmth is all you desire (no longer temperature administration with alternating warmth and a/c to maintain a consistent temperature), then turn both one among those off. Then push any of the decrease buttons that coach ventilation to go and feet, in basic terms feet, and so on. Then come about the fan knob to the wanted volume of ventilation. Then set the temperature manually on the nice and cozy temperature you desire with the buttons with the red and blue triangle information. i detect 70-seventy 2 degrees works nicely on the VDP, besides the indisputable fact that the XK8, via convertible good, calls for a touch larger putting to keep the coolness off.
