My ideal government would take care to ensure equality of economic opportunity to all it's citizens. Every person regardless of the social class he was born into deserves a decent opportunity of success. That means a government that spends heavily on public education, state subsidized universities, GI Bills, student grants, subsidized loans, job training, etc, etc. By doing this you ensure a large educated and strong middle class.
My ideal government would also stay clear out of religion. Religion and government should not mix. I think Dark Age christian Europe and the current mess in the middle east are the two best reasons why we should keep religion and government seperate. This also leads to a second point. People should be free to make their own social decisions as long as it doesn't interfere with the rights of others. I think restricting people's social decisions based on other groups interpretation of religion is wrong. Opposition to abolition of slavery, women's rights, and interracial marraige was due mostly because a certain group of people interpreted the Bible into being against those issues.

When Ben Franklin mentioned the danger of 'Factions' overtaking the government the only large money holders were the kings, the banks and the church. Now we have corporations and transnational corporations.First Russia and now Venezuela have attempted to alienate themselves from this scourge.I am sorry , but to put the peoples interest back into politics the influence of major corporations must be severely cut back or eliminated all together.Only then can the formula be other than ,,,WE=THEM.

Not sure what my ideal government would be, but this quote pretty much explains how I feel about government in general.
"That government is best which governs the least,
because its people discipline themselves."
Thomas Jefferson.

A govt as presented in the Constitution of, for & by the PEOPLE. The govt is elected by US to serve our best interests not the best interests of BIG CORPS as it is now attempting.
If the American people enjoy their freedom they need to let their reps know they will be watching how they vote and what their concerns are.
