They can stay on 24/7. That's 24 hours a day 7 days a week. There is no timer which turns them into a pumpkin. If you are a MS user and get auto updates. Eventually one will hit that requires a restart. But, nothing limits the amount of time that one can run. Anybody who says anything else is not knowledgeable.

24hrs. It also depends on other factors eg its location(nearness to heating and cooling sources), situations(dusty ones clog the fan making it hot n processing is slower therefore it needs to shut down o cool first)etc.
From my observation, it remains in optimal performance as long as its on. Remember most computers have a life dependency of 4 yrs working full time. After that, it starts the usual problems.

I dunno... most people I know never turn it off nowadays... servers are built to be run 24/7... given that you have enough cooling you should be able to keep it running for a long long time... I would suggest a break once in a while for a laptop or a badly-cooled desktop... but you can definitely go a day or two without turning it off... I got 2 computers up running almost constantly...

You can leave it on for 24 hours. It will not hurt it. But if you have a 24/7 internet connection, you should turn it off to protect against possible intrusions. I would shut it down when you won't be using it for hours, just to save electricity.

.Myself I have left mine on weeks(up to months) at a time with only the cooling fans that come standard in my computer. And been doing this for over 15 months.True I have had to restart after a windows update but just that click restart and right back up and running.Though I have cut it off to rearrange furniture(my computer sits in the living room) so it does get a break every 6months or so.Keep in mind I do computer maintance.(deleting history/temp files daily/clean and defrag harddrive weekly)LOL

Leaving it on all the time is fine. Leaving it off for more than a few days or longer can cause problems with the Hard Disk Drive. I recommend to leave it on all the time. I have had several drives go out on me after moving.
