The tales of suicidal lemmings and such are false. When mass lemmings fall off cliffs it's usually due to them migrating to different unknown place, and because of the large amount of lemming populations some fall off cliffs because they don't know where they're going and are pushed off accidently.

The myth about lemmings committing suicide was reinforced by Walt Disney in one of his early nature films. He couldn't find any lemmings willing to jump so he got his crew to throw them off the cliff and he filmed them on the way down.

no, it's just the way they control number of them in populations. it's perfectly normal. it's easier when few of them jump off the Cliff, so there would be enough food and place for everyone. if there were too many of them everybody would be hungry with no enough space (and therefore endangered)
