It depends on the bar code scanner.

I have a cue cat (from Radio Shack) that didn't come with any OCX's or dlls. It functions as a keyboard.

I also have purchased a Symbol Palm Pilot with an integrated bar code scanner, which didn't come with any OCX or DLL for the scanner (just for synching the palm with the palm desktop.)

However, some scanners will come with those files.
