yeah, like its been said, no drivers are needed. windows will recognize it. but unless your using two drives and your computer is not recognizing the drives then you might have to change the pin in the back that switches from master drive to a slave drive and I forget which one the other was, but the first drive should usualy be the master and the second the slave, but the dell computers work a little differently.

ok, it appears this drive is made oem by a sony company Optiarc. It doesnt need a driver if running under windows XP , or really anything after win 98.

It does require software to burn dvd but it should be recognised by software like Nero.

for specs search google using aw-q170a as the search word.

I bought this drive too (3 days back). It's a great one! I can't understand why Sony doesn't recognize it. But anyway, here are the specs:

BTW, Windows XP automatically detects the drive. No need for any drivers.

Could be an OEM model and not a retail one.
Make life easier on yourself. Just install Nero and Power DVD and you are ready to rock n roll. That's just what I did on a new laptop and on 3 desktops.

Optical drives are plug and play in Win XP and most retail DVD writers come bundled w/ Nero and Power DVD.
