As with any major expense always get at least 3 estimates and if the repairs are in a realm that is beyond you get as much information from the best tool around, the Internet. Good Luck.

Damp proofing will depend on the extent of the problem. I would get several estimates, normally this would be under £1,000. Replacing the roof purlins could be a few thousand, but again it's worth getting several estimates. You can save a lot of money by shopping around. Builders that are not too busy at the time, tend to be cheaper!

Lack of damp proofing says age, injection usually sorts out that one. Purlins needing replacing sounds like the old roof needs taking off or already has been taken off and a new heavier roof replacing it. If the existing purlins are sound, how about bolting new timber onto the old and making sure all are well propped off good solid structures, or call in a builder who is conversant with building regs in your district, sit down before reading his estimate, this will save you clouting your head after you faint.

One point I should mention is that if the property has never had a damp proof, it will be classed as an addition and not a repair.
A repair is liable for vat but an addition is not, I had this done on a house and was charged vat which I got refunded when I explained to the installers that I knew the regulations. The costs of your other work really depends on the size of the house and it is best to get two or three estimates.

when i bought my house, we needed the damp proofing done, it cost me £1570, and they were recomended by the estate agent,, what a joke. after 3 years of waiting, we had to get it re-done and now all is fine. So dont take just anyones advice get more than 1 quote. the people who 1st did my damp course have been to court and re-embursed me my money and other costs. They also paid for the new damp course.

I can't estimate Meilo, depends on roof size, construction, Shop around. Get a few quotes, you'll likely find as much as 50% more for some quotes. Some quotes from some trades will play on a fear factor, make out the job is bigger than it really is. Asking around for recommendations from people locally is favourite.
