And he did discovered it. No doubt.
First man on earth did nothing!!!
Newton was the first person to Discover Gravitation.

If first man discovered it, then each one of us has discovered each thing in the Universe....!!!!
No need out to Find out!!
Discovery is realisation of the 'already there' thing or phenomenoa,
and Newton was the first to do it.
All the credit goes solely to him. (if we dont consider the timing of the falling apple!!)

Nobody "discovered it" as such. Newton get the credit for the law of gravitational attraction
F = km1m2/r^2, where m1 and m2 are two masses, r the distance between them and k, the universal gravitational constant.
