I think that everyone has pride in themselves, and is proud to be who they are as individuals. But I think people are little confused. If you say the words 'I am proud to be British, etc', that does not make you a racist, if just means you are passionate about your nationality. There is nothing wrong with that, it is only a problem if you start calling yourself a superior being or race. So why are people so confused....personally I blame political correctness.....what are your views please?

it is political correctness gone completely *** backwards. Whether you are white black orange or green, be proud of who you are.Only when we can see eachother as simply "other members of the same human race" and not as colors, races or religion will this world be truely healed.

(All) pride goes before a fall.....that is what the sacred book says. But it is in the psyche of some people to be naturally proud........ (in astrological parlance the Leos for instance). However the exact opposite personality type would be the Aquarian who is forever philosophical, pondering over things, unable to conclude, having enormous amount of knowledge and so on. So having pride in white (skin colour? race?) or anything else is an individual matter. But what ultimately? That one is superior to another? After the great levelling of death, when we stand before the throne of justice where would all that go?

The thing is there is a fine line between being proud of your nationality and being racist. Some people/cultures feel threatened when other people/cultures become to in your face about their culture. Sometimes it can be dominance at the expense of being 'multi-cultural' To a greater or lesser extent it is a judgement call. However if you are going to be all Patriotic about being British how do you feel when other countries hang their banners out or try and keep their cultural identity? What exactly are you being patriotic about is just a case of waving a St George's cross flag around and trying to antagonise every 'foreigner' with it or is there some things that are unique to being British you feel proud of? I am not all P.C. and left wing about people scrounging off the system. However I do know that alot of cultures are built around immigrants and it can be about working together to try and reach an understanding.

Having pride in yourself and your country does not make one racist. Thinking that your country or nationality, heritage, etc. is superior to everyone else's, is. Racism infers that you are saying one race is better than another. I belive you can value your heritage and take pride in it without having the attitude that it's superior or more meaningful then any other.

How can a person be proud of their skin color? They didn't make it that way - they're just stuck with it. It would seem logical, that a person could be proud of something they created, or did rather than an accident of birth. Racisim is the belief that some how god created people who look like you to be better than people who don't. That seems stupid to me... doesn't it to you?

Well, kind of difficul to tell I think having a pride in your nationality is not racist but,
Having pride in your race is racist...no matter what race you are. By putting pride in your race, you are putting your race above others, and that is considered racist.

I suppose it depends on your definition of racism. Do you use the word to describe any action that is influenced by race, or do you use the word to describe acts that are deliberately designed to hurt another of a different race?
I think that it's natural for people to prefer others that are similar to them and we divide ourselves constantly into groups based on race, religion, fashion, music etc and combinations thereof. Some people prefer to be in a mixed environment, some prefer to be in a homogenous one, it's called freedom of choice.

No only when you talk down or in a condescending tone about another race or culture maybe. Being proud of being white, black, brown or yellow does not make u racist. If you going around saying "White or black power" then we have a problem.

Hey! Here's a ground-breaking thought:
How about we shelve the whole "I'm proud-of-my-skin-colour!" thing and put that pride into the whole "I'm proud of my achievements as a valued-member of society because my actions are worthy of belonging to the human RACE!" category?
Just a thought...use it, don't use it...
