Whats lacking? A solid theory of gravitation or does it also have to do with the power required for such a bridge. I've also heard, it would need to be generated at the event horizon, but any mass would be crushed by that point.

If we could answer that, we could also tell you what's right with it. It's just one more conjecture that might eventually prove true, and might not. At least, see the Wheeler and Fuller paper on why such a wormhole would be unstable. Power requirements and crushed mass are conjectures upon conjectures. Let's try the science first.
