Einstein was a very ordinary student, but his curiosity survived into adulthood. He may have been borderline Autistic (or Asperger's syndrome). This would give him a genetic pre-disposition to study areas of interest in detail without becoming "bored". His basic philosophy was that similicity and beauty underscore the fabric of the universe.

His incredible need to understand the universe around him and his natural mathematical ability. His parent were very supportive of his work and his jewish community gave him the support he needed to escape the persecution he was exposed to in Austria. When he imigrated to the United States he was housed and cared for within the Princeton University system and by the protection of the United States Government.

He was gently nurtured by wise and mature family members when he was young. Genetics certainly played a role. But, after reading everything about him and others like him, I have a STRONG hunch that much of his genius came together during his time as a Patent Office clerk. He was exposed to all sorts of new ideas, inventions and machines during that peaceful time for him. It was a flood of brilliant, innovative, creative work pouring past his eyes every day, and not deadening volumes of boring ancient tomes, but brief, concise synopses of original, innovative applications of frontier science. During that time period, his brain really kicked in.
