I ask this because of the new, mandatory compliance of a national ID card, the coming, forced passport usage for leaving and re-entering the country.
TERRORISTS who are NOT US citizens are causing the trouble (IF YOU believe the official version, that is), so why the tightening up of security for AMERICANS?!
The way I see it is this:
Passing a law will never stop anything! If it could, I would be all for it!
Taking away the freedoms that we are acknowledged to have (note that I did not say given) by the US Constitution, only serves to make us weaker, as a nation.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS NEVER WANTED A CENTRAL GOVERNMENT THAT WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO CONQUER ITS OWN PEOPLE!
"we hold these truths to be SELF evident" that when a government is so oppressive and suffocating, that the people MUST pull it down!
It is funny to me to see that the communist and nazi tactics are blooming freely in the US, as many former red-block countries are embracing the freedom we SUPPOSEDLY have.

Yes I know what the word NAZI means: It comes from the German word for nationalism and the party was rooted in the socialist ideal. Hitler, rightly, saw that socialism has but one end, the subjugation of the population, for their own good, and it needs a dictator to rule them.
I do not need the government, which seemd to screw up absolutely everything that it gets its 'hands' on, to tell me what I need, do not need and what is good for me. That is why we have, what is that pesky word?
Oh yeah,
FREEDOM1

I have seen an overreaction to 9/11/2001. Have you noticed that a lot of people just say 9/11. It really is 9/11/2001! That was almost six years ago. This is 5/11/2007. In the interim what has changed? Where have we been since then? How many laws were passed since then? How many laws were broken? How many individual human beings did we alienate? How many ways have the perpetrators of the reaction to 9/11 rationalized their crimes? How many people have profited from 9/11/2001? Big Bucks Made BY Big Houston Guys? How many Federal Bureaucracies were created? How much Bigger has "our" Government Grown"? How many people have profited from 9/11? How many people killed, jailed, tortured? How many lives destroyed, how much debt accrued, how many liberties lost - all in the name of 9/11? In the name of 9/11 where is Osama Bin Laden? One Trillion Dollars has not capture the bastard.

You are very very close to the truth. But to understand what you are trying to formulate better you need to read the book, Nemesis by Chalmers Johnson. To get a good overveiw of the book go to my BigDawg 360 page and click on the "Blast" link. It will take you to a website for Democracy Now. Click on the audio controls on the website and listen to the interview with Chalmers. Read along as well. It will totally open your mind about what is really going on.
What Chalmers Johnson is telling us is that the United States Military and the American Economy are married to each other. The American Economy needs WAR. When the military goes to war, there are a lot of corporations on Wall Street that make huge profits.
The realtionship between the Military and the Economy is called ...The Military Industrial Complex aka The MiC
The MIC does not want to die. The MIC needs the Federal Government to use NAZI tactics so as to preserve itself.
PLEASE, go to my 360 and link onto that website through my Blast! You will be amazed at what is really going on in our country.

I have no problem with temporary measures to ensure safety. I don't agree that the government has the liberty to not do everything it can to protect its citizens. In fact, one of the PROVEN most effective tools they have is profiling. And so what. If they make mistakes...acceptable considering the alternative. Hypersensitivity is an obscurantists best weapon. I believe there may be some holocaust survivors who would laugh at your nazi characterization.

You are 100% correct.

The gradual erosion of freedoms is clearly a step in that direction, especially when based on the premise of "protecting" us and "maintaining order"

The sickening part is that it is being done with the support of most Americans.

I think an additional danger is the impression that this is simply a neo-con endeavour- last time I checked- so called "liberals" are behind as many of these initiatives as the neo cons.

We have been headed in that direction ever since the CIA amBUSHed JFK in Dallas in 1963.

It just started to gain momentum in the 2000 presidential Supreme Court appointment of the current coward sleazeball degenerate and the rest of the Bush Crime family.

First Ive ever heard of nazism being rooted in socialism, it was and is fascism with a dictator at the helm....much like your current prez GW Bush.......extreme socialism leads to Communism which was one of the forces that helped defeat the nazis......check out prisonplanet.com for daily news updates of how America is being turned into a police state.

Those that ignore the past are doomed to repeat it. I agree that just by people saying it won't happen, doesn't mean it won't happen. Hopefully there will be enough people that will see the emperor is as naked as a jay bird and stop ignoring the fact that he has been indecently exposing himself and his tyranny to us for about 7 years.

yes it is unless we do something about it... by voting, protesting, speaking out

the us can be really awesome but hey enough about the founding fathers let's just do what is right and stand up for the poor, unjustly detained, et cetera and stop being bellicose

and things will get a lot better

Far from it... May be some similarities, but we work with the wisdom of past governments... Just like Hitler did.
