This is chemistry, but like baseball, you can't tell the players without a scorecard. As for the weird terms, you'll pick them up as you go along. For instance Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate. Copper is an element. When it reacts, it can react with a +1 or +2 valance. In this case, it is +2. Sulfate is SO4=. Since it has a -2 charge, one of these joins with a Cu+2. Pentahydrate means 5 water molecules. Without getting too much into bonds, copper can forms distinct compounds with water. Because the water has is neutral, we call such compounds complexes.

Mercuric oxide- Like copper, Hg can form +1 or +2 ions. The +2 ion is sometimes referred to as the "ic" form as opposed to the "ous" form for the +1 ion. Oxide is oxygen, and since oxygen almost always has a -2 valence, the compound is HgO.

Sulfur trioxide- Sulfur forms two different compounds with oxygen, SO2 and SO3. This is the second of these.
