i bought a mazda protege for 100$ a month back. It is not running due to the battery therefor i bought a new battery and i found it has a hard time starting. It takes a while to gt it started,,and then when i do, if i dont keep my foot on the gas it stalls. I later found that the engine blew nd the old owners replaced it with a new one. My car is a 1997 and the engine that they had put in is from a 1998 protege. Could the ecu not be calibrated to the matching engine therefor not sending out proper information (ext fule/air mix ratio ect.) also wen i checked the plugs today i noticed their is oil on all of them..like drenched in oil and i was wondering they problem of this aswell.

Thanks alot

Does it smell like gas? The engine oil that is....

Does it have real old gas in the tank? Old gas does not burn well.
