So i bought this truck for 200 bucks and it runs well. i think i need to redo the valve guide seals because it smokes a lot when first started. But from what i was told the check engine light turned on at 100,000 miles and the guy never got it off. It now has 117,000 miles and i need to get the light off to pass emission and safty inspection. I already tried disconnecting the battery and looked everywhere that i could for an answer online and have found no solution. I went to autozone and checker and they couldnt pull the codes. I think i might be able to manually pull them but cannot find the computer plug in. Anyway, any help would be great.

"Take the bulb out" that's funny.

(Check Engine Light)
There are many components that work together in the engine to maintain optimal engine performance and economy.
A service engine soon, or check engine light indicates that there is a sensor that is reading a condition that is "out of range".
Simply resetting the light does not solve the initial cause of the problem.
Replacing a number of parts trying to troubleshoot the problem in the hopes of getting the light to stay off is a tremendous waste of time and money.
The simplest, and most economical way to alleviate your issue, is to have an engine diagnostic done by a reputable shop to determine what caused the computer to signal you to begin with. Just reading the computer codes may not find the "cause".
That being said, if per-chance you feel the need to reset the light in the hopes that it was a "glitch" of some kind, you could disconnect the negative battery terminal for a couple of minutes to clear the check engine light.

ADDED: Check the temperature sensor wire on the engine, O2 sensor wire, and oil pressure wire.

If the light doesn't come on when the key is turned on, the car will fail the emission test. It HAS to come on to show it is working.

There is a way to check for codes, and it uses the check engine light to flash them, but you have to tell the ECU to do it. That may take buying a manual or finding a Mazda chat site and asking there.

No dont take the light out, that could indicate there is a serious problem. If it is because you installed a performance conical air intake system, you can reset it for about a week by disconnecting the battery for about an hour. I would STRONGLY recommend going to a mechanic and seeing what the problem is.

Check engine lights only mean something is wrong with the emissions system. Take the light bulb out.
