"depends on how much memory you have."
- I think you mean disk space. "Memory" or RAM is used to speed things up on the computer.

Go to "My Computer" then to "C:\". Right click on "C:\" and go to "Properties". It will tell how much disk space you have.

1500 pictures can be kind of huge in size depending on the quality of the pictures. So i'm guessing they are full sized and uncompressed pictures. That might take up a lot of space. Get a removable disk drive. Get some big storage drives and save your pictures there. It will make your computer run faster with less files on it. Also it's good for backup. You can even put it on your ipod 5G and view it there. Cds aren't that good, because unless it's rewritable you can only save it once.

You are fine, especially with an 80GB hard drive. Unless for some reason you are running very low on free space and need to clear room.

Even if you have room, you should burn them to a cd for backup purposes though, in case something goes wrong with your computer. You wouldn't want to lose pictures of your child because of a hard drive failure.

hahha so far all the answers for this are wrong LOL....

Okay select the directory that has all the photos in it.... right click it..... then select properties... you will then see how much space on your hard drive it is taking up.

If you dont know how much room you have on your hard drive you can go to "start" > "my computer" > then right click on the "C" drive and select "properties"

PS... VISTA runs really slow as is.... so dont think that your pictures are slowing it down.... vista just uses up a ton of resources to run.

Open the folder containing the pictures.
click View
click Details
You will see how much space is used by each.

It will take you a while to use up 80G, but what about a backup?

No, you have plenty of space. I suggest you buy some blank DVD's and burn the pictures, that way if your HDD crashes you still have the pictures.

I HIGHLY recommend getting a portable hard drive and leaving your pictures movies etc on that. Not to mention you can backup your stuff

I would recommend that one, or look through newegg for something else

You have plenty of space, only start to worry when you download music MP3 files as they can fill your hard drive up very quickly
