First of all to all of you a**holes out there who are obviously unintelligent and cannot read PROPERLY did not understand my question. i am NOT putting her down about her weight i was just curious as to why the baby was on the smaller side.
Secondly, i am not a hater and i have 3 kids and have gained differently each time: 40 lbs, 37lbs ans 17 lbs and all of mine were around the same size: 8.6, 8.11, 8.10.
I was only curious!!!
Oh and by the way... whoever told me to grow up...sounds like you have REAL ISSUES; don't take them out on ME. YOU are the real HATER and YOU should GROW UP.
to the rest of you all who answered ne like NORMAL PEOPLE- thank you both for your insight and for being INTELLIGENT.
the rest of yall can go sit on a tack!

Not really. This is sometimes the case with people who become pregnant while being overweight. Their body is used to absorbing more of the fat in foods, so the babies get less. One of my good friends is 350#'s, and her 3 kids were tiny. All 38 weeks or later, boy 5lbs 3Oz's 39weeks, girl 4lbs 15 Oz's at 41 weeks, and boy 6lbs at 38 weeks. Sometimes it just happens, I have nothing against obesity, but sometimes their babies are smaller on average because of this.

that's a good weight... anything 6-9lbs is in the great section. 41 weeks pregnant isn't actually late it's on time anything between 38 and 42 weeks isn't early or late your due date doens't really mean that much.
17lbs even for a heavy person is really not that much at all. If you think she needs some sort of help losing the weight go work out with her, and if she isn't taking the baby to the doc's then encourage her to.
Really I don't think that your being much of a friend posting her life on yahoo questions.

actually an average baby is 7lbs. 7oz. and as far as the days are concerned if it was her first baby then i would understand because the first baby can be up to 2 weeks early or up to 2 weeks late so yeah she had a small baby but she didn't gain much weight either so its normal for someone who doesn't gain alot of weight to have a small baby

Just because she is overweight doesn't mean she will have a large baby. The babies weight is within normal range, even for being overdue. As far as what she gained, that's great for her, less to lose! The bigger you are, the less you are told to gain and I believe she probably stayed within what she was told.

It's an average weight for a baby. I think we're just used to bigger babies and we expect heavier people to birth big babies. My best friend is very overweight as well, she only gained 20 lbs and her son wasn't quite 7 lbs.

Its more genetic then anything. She, or her grandparents or anyone really could have been that size at birth. Its within the normal range so there is nothing to worrie about, and like I said, the babies size is genetic, and not relevent to the mothers size. Just in time for mothers day!

all i can say is, i am a small woman. 5 ft 100 pds. and my last baby was 8 pds 4 oz. i only gained 20 pounds. every woman is different. as long as the mother and the baby are healthy i don't see any reason to be alarmed.

Not really, it's an average sized baby. Just because your friend is overweight, doesn't mean she should have big babies...maybe she was a similar size at birth.
