In New Zealand and Australia we use it for a man too, I'm not sure if there are slight differences in its use here.....ie we talk about blokes and their sheds, or this silly bloker or going out with the blokes...just a casual term for men or sometimes silly people.

I understand that it is slang for a man in Australia. According to an Aussie lass in our office it is usually used in the context of "He's a good bloke, a nice bloke or not a bad bloke."The term bastard on the other hand can be used in any way from affection to the most worthless and contemptible person.

A boy or a man. It is a British term but I don't believe it has the be a British boy or man who is the Bloke :-)

(hint: next time you hear it replace Bloke in the sentence with Guy, Man, Boy, idiot, etc till you figure it out)

Its a british word for an ordinary guy. We'd use guy. As in that bloke ordered the same meal as me.
