I bought her yesterday and got the betta bites fish food which are small brown pebbles. She has trouble eating them hole. She will swallow them and then spit them back out. I started crushing them for her, but that doesn't seem to be helping either. What can I do until I get to the pet store tomorrow?

I have been breeding bettas for years!

For starters, your betta may not have been fed that particular food in the pet shop. It may have trouble swallowing the food (as its too big or dry) or it may not yet be hungry (as people have suggested above).

personally, I find feeding frozen blood worms or brine shrimp works better than feeding pellets. These come in frozen blocks at a pet shop are a really quite cheap. Ask the person assisting you the best amount to feed and when (once p/day, about 8-15 individual bloodworms or about a pea-sized amount of brine shrimp should do it)

Hope that helps a little ;)

That's actually pretty normal. The betta bites are a bit hard for some fish so try soaking them in a bit of water a few minutes before feeding them to him to soften them. That usually works like a charm.

My betta had the same problem at first - now he eats those brown pebbles like they are his favorite. It just takes some getting used to. When he adjusts to his new home he will probably start to eat.

I have a betta. It's ok if she doesn't eat for a day. Just feed her a little bit more food the next day. And try to get one of those little paper-like fish food things. That's what I have. Mine is called "Color Bright".

they only eat about 5-8 pieces of food a day...allow the food to float around and the nutrients will be in the water. they can bounce back fairly fast, but they are a nervous fish and the new environment may be the cause. it is very important you change the water weekly.

My betta didn't eat for about three months as far as I saw when I first got him.... he's a weirdo. I never did figure out what was wrong, but he's still alive.

When you first buy fish it's normal if they don't eat because they're getting use to the new environment, but also you should check the water ph levels to make sure it's not too hard for her.

Bettas like to test their food before eating it. Plus, since you just bought it, it might not be used to its suroundings.
