In the long term, everything would be screwed up on the ecosystem level, and eventually the planet would be unfit for life.

Why?

Because in the short term, if *every* animal organism above the level of bacteria either became undead or got devoured by such, there would be *nothing* to keep the growth of plants and fungi in check.

And fungi in particular tend to be decay agents, so eventually the undead would be in a state of impaired "function" or ability to keep on moving and munching, and once that happens, the plant life over grows and overruns *them* like it already did everything else.

It would happen fairly quickly too because without animal life to consume plants *or oxygen*, and the plants themselves running wild (thank global warming and rising CO2 and methane levels, undead or not), eventually the excess oxygen in the air would lead to more burning and accelerated decay, both bad for the shambling dead.

Not that anyone would be around to cheer it, but hey, at least they'd *get theirs* in the end....

And then the dominant lifeform would be "mushroom people" like Toad from the Super Mario games.....right before the planet decays into a dustball.

Thanks for your time! ^_^ And I'm *sorry* that princess is in another castle! Not that you were missing anything, she did kinda look like a dried-up strip of teriyaki turkey jerky last time I looked.....

Nothing. This world would become a planet of the dead. I read 2 books recently called The Rising and City of the Dead. And in it, scientists experimenting with particle accelerators tear a hole in reality and release the Djjin. Demons who possess the bodies of the dead, essentially becoming zombies but with a evil, cunning intelligence. And no matter how many times you destroy the body, the Djjn can always return to inhabit a dead body and even animals. Eventually their goal is to kill all animal life on earth so that the remain Djjn can then inhabit plant life and then all life on the earth no matter how small!

Unfortunately, I would have to answer this question with a question. Who's leading the zombies?

Zombies, by definition, are mindless. Therefore, for them to conquer in such a way, someone would have to be at the helm of this ship of madness.

Otherwise, the zombies would never be able to accomplish this goal. They, in Shawn of the Dead, eat the humans, though have no need for sustenance. This, to me, makes no logical sense.

For your scenario to happen, I truly believe these zombies would have to act as an army. And, therefore, would be controlled, or spearheaded, by a necromancer of sorts.

well of course, since wed all be gone, theyd take over. depending on what food they need (if any) to survive, they could die off or live on FOREVER. (i think i sound a bit crazy answering this question, but im bored and this seemed interesting.) i could go on for hours about this. i have a wild imagination. SO YAHHHHHH. thats what would happen.
