What? Did you read your question at all? I think you're either going for shock value and you are such a bigot that you don't care if your son is diverse and well-versed. I'm a proud black man who not only reads poetry, but I write and perform poetry. But I also am a prominent member of my black church, I speak out against violence and drugs in my community, I am an avid sports freak, I am working on my degree in Political Science, I weight lift daily, I was raised by strong black parents and I am in a relationship with a strong black woman... Are you telling me that to be an angry black man, you need to be recluse who denies anything that makes him smarter and more prepared for the hard world ahead of him? If that's the case, I hope your son has a mother.

First of all, there is absolutely nothing wrong with reading poetry. Second, are you saying that he should take on the persona of an angry black man? Seriously, aren't there enough angry people in the world causing trouble? Why do we need any more? Maybe the poetry is helping him stay calm. More power to him. Maybe you should consider checking out some poetry one day too.

Why oh why do you want him to be an angry black man?? Being angry is such a WASTE of energy!! When you let people make you angry, you are giving THEM power over you.
You can't change who your son is. You can try -- and he'll learn to hate you for it.
Perhaps YOU could learn to like poetry?

Is it you or your son who is the angry black man?
You don't do your race an credit with statements like that. And then you are the first one to call out " racism " .
You're pathetic !! Your parents must be so proud to have raised such an ignorant fool like you !

i'm black, i'm 15 almost 16, i get angry sometimes, i write poetry, i read poetry, i have friends that read and write poetry, whats wrong with me, i think ur trying to give black people a bad name by saying we shouldn't read poetry. i think it would be better if we all did, mabey it would cut down on the violence rate if we all caried pens and paper instead of guns and knifes. stop acting like a stistic and don't make ur son act like one eighter!

Why does he have to be an angry black man? Why not be a well rounded one. He'd stand a much better chance at being able to do something productive in life.
