I really hate to be the bearer of bad news. If you download a RAR folder or any other compressed files and it has a virus, usually a trojan it either goes off immediate, or has a timer that is set in wating to go off.
If your antivirus software does not deal with all types of compresed files, your computer will be infected when the trojan in waiting is released.
Think of the trojan as a live time bomb ticking away and set to go off at the given time set my the originator.
I use an antivirus program that you pay a one time fee for life of $29.99. Includes all updates an all new versions for life.
This antivirus program described below would have caught the trojan code in waiting the moment your download started and destroyed it. The antivirus program is designed to handle all compressed files known.
Read the webpage and if you like what you read this is the antivirus of choce I have used for over ten years and never one virus.
By culture the Chinese are very secret just about everything and that includes their software.
This antivirus program out of Beijing, China that is also used by the Government of China.
This antivirus program does not have the Govt. permission to be rated with all other known antivirus programs.
What I can assure you is that you pay only a one time fee for life that will include all auto updates, and all new versions for life. The Chinese don't believe in having to pay an annual fee for updates or new versions.
I can tell you their technology is light years ahead of any other known antivirus software out there.
If you open a webpage and there is a hidden virus it will clean in realtime. Anything that you download and has even a trace code, it will kill the download and ask you to upload the trace code for investigation. In real time the upload will tell you if it is clean or not.
Will not allow you download, Real Player, because there is a hidden file that is a trojan keylogger. The file was uploaded and traced back to the United States Army, Intelligence Services out of London, England. (Removal of the file Real Player will reject the installation).
Read for yourself at their webpage. I have never had one virus in ten plus years. Plus it will catch any progam with it's dynamic defense system, for software that you download and it does not have a publisher or lic., included.

The virus only works when you click on it. Delete the file and you won't have to worry about it any more.
Ninjas know the importance of not spreading viruses. I recommend taking your katana to any computer in your house that may have a virus. Even if your not sure. It's better to error on the side of caution.
If you want to have a little fun, sneak up on your computer in the dead of night when it is in hibernation mode. Be silent and be swift!

there's a good chance that the virus might work because there are some viruses that go off on a timer on certain dates and times. my recommendation is to get rid of the corrupted file and do an anti-virus scan or, to be even safer, get rid of the whole file entirely and do another anti-virus scan just incase there are still fragments still around in the memory.

There were spyware bodies recently in the internet. The "mother-body" executed on a pc and downloaded rar files containing spy- and adware that were used from rar packs by the "mother-spyware". I don't remember the spyware but it was a horrible one. I ave deleted it with Spyware Doctor on my friend's computer. Spyware Doctor found 16000 spyware on the pc (in rar extension).
I don't mean that the rar files were infected by the spyware. The rar files were spyware themselves.

It might. But anyone who makes a virus...probably knows a way to get around that. Sorry.
