I'm going to request that my dog be declared a person so I can write her off like a "dependant" on my taxes

that is so dumb. I love animals and I like some animals more than I like some people but they are still animals. When that chimp can hold down a job, pay taxes, cut my grass, do my laundry, pay my bills, vote, raise my children, take my family on vacation and take out my garbage then I will consider him a "person"

This is so stupid. When animals start talking, writing, building buildings, inventing things and knowing right from wrong, THEN maybe they will be persons.

Yes it is possible to declare something what it is not. Jesus was declared a god, Muhammad was named a prophet of god, so why not a chimp a man. It makes as much sense.
