What factors could have caused it ? Is their demise was permanent or their resurgence (particularly for China and India) is real ?

Civilisations go in cycles . They rise and fall. Just when they are most powerful they sow the seeds of their own destruction as the USA is doing now

The major factor that held back the development of all these peoples had to do with the role of the government. The governments of China, India and Arab countries were too powerful and controlled just about everything. The reason for this was purely economic: In China, Arab lands and India a centralized government was necessary for maintaining a vast network of irrigation canals on which the whole economy depended. The government stifled individual initiative and suppressed independent thought. That's why those peoples were left behind.

They used to have the inherent advantage due to guns, germs and steel. However, as people started spreading out, the resources were redistributed. Europe gained the advantage from this. Imperialism helped them further along. Then Europe put a damper on India and China's development by conquering and dividing and stealing more resources for themselves. Don't worry though. It's just a matter of time before they come back stronger than ever.

This is a very interesting and often asked question.

I am not a religious person, but I think the answer may be the dominate teachings of the religions. All of the cultures you mention emphasise a patient acceptance of what is. Read Sidhartha and see what I mean for Hinduism. There is an element of surrender in all their teachings.

Christianity, on the other hand, is goal oriented. Even the architecture of Western churches illustrates it with a latteral sense of progression from the atrium to the alter and salvation. Christianity speaks of duty as well as discipline. One is supposed to do something as well as just be something. Prohibitions are accompanied by injunctions to move ahead, and the idea of Progress itself is a Western invention.

If your religion speaks of the god's creation as perfect in its present form, then change become chaos and an impious.

Dude all the modern inventions, and devices, revelations, all came from either the usa, or europe is why! And why God gave this part of the world all that, I think it was because they mostly worshipped him the most ! They will always be a step behind in development because of this I think, and whereas, they have such a burden to keep afloat, with over half of the population of the world...
