I just bought new 18" aftermarket wheels for my Mercedes Benz 99' C280 (RWD). The bolt battern on my car is 5 X 112 and has a 35mm offset. The wheels are 10 - hole (5 X 114.3 or 5 X 100) and have a 45 offset. Only when I put on the aftemarket wheels , both back wheels start to make some sorta grinding noise after each rotation, seems like something is rubbing hard against something else. When I put on my stock tires though, everything is fine. So I'm assuming it's my new wheels. Can the rims be fixed, or are they the wrong fit and I should just give up and try to sell them. Any help would be terrific.

they are probably too wide. look when the wheel is off and see if you can see where its scraping.. you may be able to get some wheel spacers, it'll look wider .. and meaner, may get away with that, if not you'll need dished out rims

I hate to be the bearere of bad tidings but it sound like you have a bad transmission. I am assuming that it is an automatic. The clutches are bad or the activators are leaking and you cannot make them operate in sequence. First is to check around for prices. Second you can get a replacement transmission at a DIY salvage yard for a few $$$ . With a tool clever friend you can replace the transmission in about 2 hours. You must be wise regards SAFETY and CLEAN. Dirt is the enemy of all moving machinery. The alternatice is one of the transmission shops that offer rapid service and fairly low costs. There are two or 3 national chains that do nothing but the Midas may be one choice.

Stupid. The wheels dont fit at all. You answered your own question. You need 5X112 wheels!!!! So, your lugs are not fitting correctly. You will have to put your old wheels back on if the lugs are not damaged and quit trying to be a player!
5X114.3 is the Ford/Dodge/Toyota/BMW 5 on 4.5" size, and the 5X100 size is for larger FWD GM cars, some cheaper (than MB) euro makes, and 5 lug subaru.

Sound like it is rubbing the inner fenderwell You should be able to run 18s on a mercedes no problem. I run 18s on my Mitsubishi Lancer. You might need lower profile tires.

It is possible your wheels needs to be shimmed due to incorrect offset. Remove the wheels and inspect, looking for scratch marks on both wheels and hub

Rear disc brakes?

They are rubbing on the calipers.
