isn't jamestown basically the start of slavery in the us by the white british europeans? and basically the start of the death of the native americans who got sick and died from the dieseases that the europeans got at sea (malaria, etc). and the start of english being FORCED as the major language of the land? so why are we "celebrating" it?

because they were a part of the FIRST English settled area...though some died in the early of its time....but there are some that survived, just like the 8 Native Indian-tribes that are still in existence in Virginia to this day...

We are celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of the first permanent English settlement in North America. That is why Queen Elizabeth II stopped by Jamestown to be a pary of the festivities before going to Churchill Downs.
