It depends on how close you are to them or if you are actually busy. Just be honest with them; if they are a real friend they will understand or you will want to see them.

Well it all depends on whether you feel like entertaining people or not. If you don't feel like entertaining guests at that particular time then I would say "Oh I wish I had known you guys were dropping by, then so and so and I would not have made plans for today" and let them know that you are heading out the door. If you do feel like entertaining then I would invite them in and have a good time and if this is something that happens on a regular basis then I would tell your friends that you would appreciate it if they could drop you a call and check in with you before dropping by so that you know to expect them.

I excuse myself for a moment, hide the zebra in the closet, and quiet down the intoxicated midgets. Then I invite my friends in and offer them beverages and snacks.

Since I live in the woods it is kinda hard to hide the fact that I am home.. but I really wish they would call before they come over... especially if it is someone I don't want to see.

If the house is dirty I pretend I'm not home. Otherwise I let them in.
