What does someone mean when they say that a person is their?

Removed means that they are in a different generation. So your cousin's kid is a cousin once removed. If they are the child of a third cousin then they are a "3rd cousin once removed."

They're not really related, but want you to think they are, because the other person is either rich or more popular and they're looking for any conceivable connection.
