I have a Linksys Modem and Router. There are 2 computers I want to set up. Computer A is a laptop that has Pro and is hooked up wireless. Computer B is a desktop, with Home and is wired.
Is it possible to have these two connected somehow so I can work from the laptop and save and access files on the desktop? Please help. Thank you.

give both computers the same workgroup name so they are on the same network. right click my computer and go to properties - click on computer name - then click on to rename computer or join domain and name both computers the same so they are on the same workgroup and the right click on each file on each computer you want to share and set to sharing

You have to enable file sharing on both computers to be able to transfer files or edit files from one to another. Just right-click the folder or file you want to share on both of your systems. That way you can access the files from either location. Right-click the folder/file and go to Properties and the Sharing tab. Check "Share this file/folder on the network" and check "Allow network users to change my files". Do that to both computers and that should work. Open Windows Explorer and click "My Network Places" and "View Work Group Computers". Make sure that your Work Group name is the same on both systems too. XP will work sometimes if they are different, but it causes problems once in awhile.

Vista has the skill to setup an 'ad hoc community'. press F1 and search for for ad hoc networking. each from time to time having the impressive terminology can help you artwork it out using google too. i do not study doing this over Ethernet. it would want to be a probability, yet think ofyou've got to purchase a instantaneous card on your 2d computer (or borrow a persons' exterior USB adapter). solid success.

You either need to get a wireless router/hub, and hard-wire that to the Modem/router, or use the wired connection on your laptop - connect it to the Modem/router. That is just step 1....
