if you practice you can acheive perfection; everyone has this in them but it is presently obscured by our negativities. alas, the way is long but many like siddartha gautama (the buddha or awakened one) have acheived this state

Practice at something you like to do. If you practice at something you like, you may become a more perfect person, simply by practicing things which make you happy.
You can become proficient enough to acquire a specialty, and help others, and maybe teach and pass on the things you've practiced so well.

There are many variations of the definition of the word "perfect" in the dictionary (just like any other word for instance the word "hot" can refer to how someone looks, or the tempeture outside etc) . You're right, no one is perfect in the sense of having no defect etc. but rather we can become perfect in the sense of the potential of being proficient or an expert in what we do.

There you go.

Perfection is a destination. Practice is a moment. Do you want to get where you are going?

It's just a figure of speech. It just flows better than, "If you practice. You will gradually become closer to obtaining perfection".
Chasing perfection still accomplishes more than letting it get away.

Presumably you're just mischief making and must know that doing something perfectly doesn't make you a perfect person.
In fact if you consider the "diva" mentality, it seems more likely that the more perfect you are at something, the more damaged you are as a personality.

Because, while perfection can never be obtained, practice can help get us at least on the road to it.
