I am a U.S. Citizen living in the state of Georgia, and lately I have seen more and more things going on socially, politically, ect. and I feel that I want to be able to act for what I feel is right, and be able to do so in a non-violent way. After looking around, I found that a person needs to be trained in non-violent resistance to be able to do so effectively. I've seen books and websites that have claimed that they have such training in them, but I would perfer a class, workshop, or something to that effect to obtain the desired training. Therefore, is there anywhere in particular I can be trained to be able to effectively practice non-violent resistance?

I feel it starts with yourself. If your nature is one of peace your actions will be so. Teach yourself to be non-responsive to negative input, someone can get in your face and you will not respond in a negative way or escalate the situation. With practice and over time you will become a non - violent person, By example you will attract people of the same nature, a common bond. With that you can build a "WE", compare experiences, you are no longer alone, With others you have a common goal, to make this world a better and safer place. I see you have read Dr. King, read his mentor M. Gandhi. Also I recommend "The Power of Compassion". Dali Lama. There is alot of information out there about what your searching for and I'm afraid that I can think of not one place to go for training unless you have a open mind and would consider a Zen monastery. Enjoy, your on a wonderful journey of discovery.

There is a book by John Scott call Weapons of the Weak. He discusses this. It may not be as simple as taking a class maybe you could volunteer for grassroots organizations or research the methods of people like ML King.

I don't know of training for this, but study Ghandi, ML King Jr, and Jesus, because they all practised it and got their point across. They suffered for it, too. I admire your spirituality. When I was younger, I was in some protests, etc for the causes in which I believed, but I am too old to want to go to jail now. That could be the least of what happens if you choose this path. Be prepared to accept it or don't do it.
