On the 3rd of May 2007 I was hired at Wal-Mart in Cedar Hill, Tx. I was excited due to the fact that this would be my first real job. After answering job related questions and submitting a background check, I was ready to learn what position would I be doing. Cashier was my hope and joy, but it came crumbling down as soon as I heard "cart pusher". WTF! I'm 20. 6 FOOT 1, and have a 4.0 GPA and I'm a cart pusher? I seriously do not even remember selecting cart pusher as a choice. Cashier was my ONLY choice, mainly due to my knowledge of noticing how cashiers act like they do not want to be at work and almost never smiling. My plan was to do what cashiers never did: Make the customer feel like they are welcomed. I also found out that before I was a part of the C.P. crew, they had only 5 Part-time pushers at that Wal-Mart. Many quit due to not getting respect from no one at all. Cart pushers are from what I've seen are mentally challenged, anti-social or the elderly. I'm none of these.

Well quit then. Obviously you want a job, and Walmart wants a cart pusher. You should keep in mind though, you may not have the experience they are looking for. Maybe you do, I don't know. However, most employers promote from within. You may start out as a cart pusher then move up quickly to a cashier. Also, you are part of the reason cart pushers get no respect. SOME may be mentally challenged, anti-social or elderly but certainly not all. Remember, mentally challenged people have bills too, and no person dreams of being a cart pusher in his golden years, so try to be more sympathetic. Also, to look down on these hard working individuals reflects your own character and refusing to do a job that "isn't good enough" might tell Walmart that you will just quit anyway once cashier "isn't good enough."

If you want to quit, then quit! I am a new employee with WalMart. I was originally going to be a cashier, but then they decided that I start as a cart pusher. They asked me if I would be good with that position. I told them I would be happy wherever they wanted me to start from. I told them that I plan to work my way from the bottom and make it to the top. Yes they can change things how they see fit, but just be lucky you got the job. G.P.A is of no consequence. Beggars can t be choosers. I was lucky to have been given the opportunity and the chance to get the job. So before you decide to down talk people who are cart pushers, you might want to reflect upon yourself and count your blessings. The motto may be work smarter and not harder, but there s also a couple of other sayings. 1. An honest days pay for an honest days work. And 2. Those who work hard as well as easy will be rewarded in the end. So just keep quiet and do your job. And stay committed to the job. Enjoy it, and everything else will follow in time. So that being said, have a nice day and God bless.

I would at least try to find another job offer before you turf Wal-Mart! And truthfully...I would rather see you a 'Cart Pusher' than a Drug Pusher! There is no dishonour in the job,it's only lousy because of societal attitudes!

I spent 4 years working for Walmart DC 6020 in Florida and I know a lot about them. They are vary generous with lateral movement. You have your foot in the door. You can have an excellent career with them.

They are heavy to promote from within. They will train you for any position or promotion you get. I knew one man who started loading trucks. Within ten years he was assistant manager for DC 6020. He had a HUGE paycheck.

In order to get up the ladder you have to do your time. Be a cart pusher. Be the best card pusher Walmart has.

Walmart recogonizes hard work. Be on time to work, don't call in, an get interested in the company. Ask you manager and supervisor how to get promoted.

Walmart is in constant growth and the opportunitity is there but not if you cut yourself off. If you leave Walmart will never hire you back.

Give it a fair chance. Try it for one year. You should be able to lateral move to cashier in 3 months. You can move up in promotion in 6 months.

As soon as you can get out of the store and into a corporate office or a warehouse, do it. That is where the real money is. I started at $8.80 an hour. In Three years I was at $14.00 an hour.

If you can get a business degree get one. If you tell Walmart about those plans they may scholarship it for you.

Understand something. Wal mart will make you work your *** off.
They are demanding and exacting. You can retire extremly wealthy.

I wish I had stayed. It is one of the stupidest working decisions I ever made in leaving.

Why don't you go out and look for another job? When you ask for employment, be sure to tell the management of your plans for college and be up front about your need for special timing. Working at a grocery store is sometimes better, perhaps on the night shift when they stock the shelves. You are going to another larger college in the fall so I hope you can get another job to fill in before college begins. Are you in need of a full time job? Because you will have to take what you can if you cannot work on scheduled time. Good luck and do not give up college for a job at Wal-Mart.

Hi,I think that you're young and the real job will come after you finish college.
Think about this, Wal mart is better than burger king.
And if you're a good worker you'll find another better job, meabe in that same walmart that you work at.
But keep looking for a job, don't quit(your job) till find it.

I feel there are other options for you than pushing carts. I would say try Costco, UPS, FedEx, Starbucks, and even a city or government job. Look for something that has benefits and a retirement. And someone that will pay you more than what your making at Wal-mart.

You should not look down on cart pushers, and if you become one you should be the best one you can be. If you do that you may be a manager one day.

wally land is not really the place for a person who wants to be a success. you can discuss this with the manager as i know that in order to be a manager you have to have been the manager of each department first.
i would suggest that you stay on there until you find a new job and in the mean time use your discount card to buy a bunch of stuff even for your family and friends.
i know what you mean about the cart pushers being retarded i think most places around me they are . i don't know about wally land never looked but at loblaws and the other grocery stores they are.
