I am using a laser printer to print out envelopes for our wedding invitations. I would like to send the envelopes through the printer twice (to have the return address on the back top flap) but I heard that it's not good to put envelopes through laser printers twice. I'm guessing something with the glue?

Anyone have any experience with this and know if it will be fine if I do it? I really don't think it will do anything, but I don't want to ruin the envelopes.

Thanks!

Yes, its not advisable, because the glue will melt. You may not only destroy the envelope, but may spoil your printer as well. This is because the glue gets heated and pressed between rollers (that's how they fuse the toner onto the paper). The glue may ooze out and screw up your fuser and that's expensive to replace.

I'd suggest that you run it thru once to get your main address done, then run it thru an inkjet printer to print the smaller return address behind.

If you really really need to do it with a laser, leaving it overnight so that the glue is not sticky may help, but that's still running a risk with your laser fuser.

Envelopes For Laser Printers

Print the FRONT with your laser printer, and use the clear laser mailing labels for the back.

Avery clear laser labels:

Use that on the back flap. A bit more labor, but I guess you should have enough "volunteers" to stuff the envelopes any way. :) And it's a very professional touch even if you have colored envelopes.

Remember to use the "straight" paper path if your laser has a choice for envelopes if possible. You don't want the envelope curled.

Most laser will ruin the env if pass twice, the heat will melt the glue too much.
I would suggest using an inkjet, they are a lot better on paper env.

you could print both the targeted visitor address and go back address mutually. Open the envelope flap - so the envelope appears like a flat sheet a paper. you ought to rearrange the go back address the different way up - so it really is sweet placed even as the flap is folded down.
