I have many videos, most of which use the Divx codec.
When i give them to my friends, they can't watch it and i don't feel like telling them to download codecs.
Is there a way to remove them from a vid and make it standard format?

You need to convert the DIVX to another codec
standard mpeg i assume
below you can find such a converter, there are also some for free in the second link
be aware you will always loose quality and compression

You need to re-encode them using a third party software, like a video converter to convert it from AVI to AVI, but now with option to choose a different codec.
Word of warning, reason why Divx is used on AVI is to reduce size, so if you remove it, you may end up with a file so large you wont be able to sent via email or even fit onto a CD.

Its easier to sent them a link of divx codec.

Try telling them to download VLC media player. It's free and decodes most video files.

Video's are encoded when they are recorded, you cant undo it. Just send them the codec pack once and for all!

the problem is that the audio stream. is rom (read only memory), they have their own format of audio, you cant make any modifications. the only way to hear it is finding the apropiate codec for that audio.
