If you are pregnant, then you might be able to express a little fluid from the breast from around 7 1/2 months. This is perfectly normal, and if you have breast fed in the past, this may come in even earlier in the pregnancy. This would be a nearly clear to slightly yellowish liquid that is thicker than milk. It is colostrum, the forerunner of milk in the breast. This is what your baby will drink for the first few days after birth, before the hormones make the true milk come in.
Some women massage the nipples to strengthen them for breastfeeding, and that's when they find out about the colostrum.
After the birth, its possible to be leaking when you think of your baby, when you hear the little one cry, or just when its due for a feed. This settles down in a few weeks, and you just use breast pads to take up the excess in the mean time.

You leak colostrom until a few days after the baby is born. For me, this always started around month 6-7. It was worse in the mornings, and I needed to use cotton handkerchiefs in my bra to keep it clean. Breast pads seemed to be overkill usually. You might find that if you are thinking a lot about the baby, or you hold someone else's baby, you leak more. Be prepared for this if you go to a family get together and your sweet little baby nephew pats you on the chest when you are holding him! LOL
I even had leaking durking my ultrasounds - ugh! It's clearish yellowish, BTW

you don't leak breast milk until after the baby is born. However some women do leak a clear milky or yellowish thick discharge called colostrum or premilk. This can happen at any time during pregnancy. With my first i started leaking at 24 weeks and my second at 7 weeks. Good Luck!

Many women do not experience leaking of colostrum during pregnancy. For those that do, it's usually after the 4th or 5th month of pregnancy. It's likely to be a transluscent yellow color, clear with a yellow tint for first time moms. Often in second or third or more pregnancies, the milk is in by delivery, so then the leaking would be like skim milk.
I found that the leaking (which started at 16 weeks) was sticky, and I'd wake up with it on my pjs...I never had any problems with it leaking through the bra, but it would leave a sticky spot in my bra at the end of the day.
One thing to note...most lactation consultants would not recommend "preparing" the nipples for breastfeeding, or to collect this colostrum. Nipple stimulation causes the release of oxytocin, which can cause contractions. In the preterm pregnancy, it's obvious why you wouldn't want to trigger contractions, but it's also important not to trigger contractions by nipple stim at home even at term because it's difficult to regulate, and too much oxytocin can cause hyperstimulation of the uterus which eventually can cause problems with oxygenation of the baby during that period of hyperstimulation (we often see the heart rate drop in the hospital, so surely you don't want that at home).
So, it's totally normal if you do leak, but leaking during pregnancy doesn't impact your future success breastfeeding!
Congrats!

I was 5 months pregnant when I leaked for the first time. I gave my hubby a hug and thought he had a wet shirt on, until i looked at myself in the mirror and saw two perfectly wet circles on my shirt. The leaking milk was clear and I didn't leake after that, so I didn't need to wear nursing pads. If you are leaking a lot, you can use nursing pads, or put cabbage in your bra to help dry up the milk.

Some women's breasts leak, others do not. Breasts start to produce colostrum between 4-8 months gestation. However even though that is the "rule" it has been known to happen earlier.
Generally the colostrum is clear from no color to deep yellow.

Mine never started until after I gave birth (3 times) and it's usually like a cream color more than white or clear.
