Well WWII was only a little over 60 years ago, but my favorite war movie is Full Metal Jacket. It's about the Vietnam war so that may be too out of date for you. I haven't seen any good films about the Iraq war.

This may not be what you are looking for, but there is an anime film out there called "Grave of the Fireflies." The setting is Japan, WWII. I think the movie was made in 1988. It's a great film and I'm not even into anime. I have to warn you, it's one of the saddest movies I have ever seen.

Tears Of The Sun is an EXCELLENT war type movie granted it's not based on any of our american wars but still check it out if you get a chance. Hmm...that's about all I can suggest i'm not a big war movie buff. Although I haven't seen them both Flags Of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima are supposed to be very good. Not only that but Flags is filmed from the american point of view and Letters is filmed from Japans point of view. Both directed by Clint Eastwood, both got rave reviews. Hope that helps. Enjoy:)

Letters From Iwo Jima, Black Hawk Down, and Three Kings are three of the best modern war movies out there. I like them because they focus on the common soldier on the battlefield and not the generals and politicians barking orders from a safe distance.
