I know he has a knee problem and has problems to walk but whats the real reason?.

my guess is that since it was not his descion to leave (he got fired), he decided to take whatever the writers at General Hospital had to offer him (since he loved his job a lot), so he could still be on the show for a while longer. i don't think it was right for the writers to fire a veteran just like that. they should've given him more respect, or at least a proper good-bye..

Maybe he didn't decide anything. Maybe the writers, producers, or some other executive thought it would be best. Still keep him on the show, but kind of weed him out. Maybe the writers thought it made an interesting twist in the story line.
Don't know.

but the ghost him is starting to really annoy me.

They were cutting him out entirely. The fans wanted him to stay hence the ghost.
