your looking at it the wrong way, your dog gives you free unconditional love. I mean really, everyday when you come home fido acts like s/he has never seen you before and gives you the greeting of a life time.
so giving your dog free food is the least you can do.

A dog doesn't normally just use you for food, on the other hand, I believe a cat not only uses you for food, but dreams of growing into the size of a lion so that it can eat you.

Yeah, it is instinct to expect that from the alpha male. It is like he is getting the scraps from the kill, so don't feel too bad. So the next time you are eating a T-bone and give him kibbles, you can feel like the master.

Probably. If your dog is like mine he's also using your shirt for a napkin, your bed for lounging and gas passing, and your car for shedding.

no. also for companionship.
If you didnt feed your dog, but put it out to fend for itself, it would probably still hang around outside your home cause you're its family. I don't suggest you try this, however.
