After running My Huskee mower. My 18HP motor will not start after it is has ran for an hour or so. I have rebuilt the carb, took advice and got a new magneto, new plugs. When trying to restart the engine, I smell raw fuel when I try to restart hot.. I've set the float level even with the top plate, I've also tried dropping it way down. Is there a "check" in the carb that I'm missing. This is Year 2 with this problem, I cannot afford to take it to service... Thank You In Advance.

Had the same problem with a 11HP.. was the spark coil, but you said you changed it? It is possible it may be running too lean and developing a vapor loc in the carb. If you have changed the coil, try increasing the mixture and see if that helps. Adjust the mixture at full throttle for the maximum rpm then open another 1/4 turn. Hope this is useful.

One thing that you might want to check is the cowling air flow. Make sure that there is not a bunch of grass in the cowling. That will make the engine run hot. Don't put the throttle all the way up to choke when starting hot. You should also run the engine for a couple of minutes at idle after hard use to allow it cool. Cleaning also helps, keeping oil/dirt build up off the engine increases cooling. I am guessing that it is a heat problem.

Heat saturation (the increase of temperature after Internal combustion engine shutdown) may be causing the exhaust ( or intake) valve lash ( setting of the clearance of the valve) to be too tight, causing the valve to not fully seat, resulting in a loss of compression, and inefficient combustion, and the smell of raw fuel. If this is an OHV engine, I believe the valve cover on this engine is in the front, and the proper lash settings COLD only are .003" intake, and .005" exhaust.......email me if you need help with this.

one element that it somewhat is beneficial to confirm is the cowling ventilation. confirm that there is no longer a team of grass interior the cowling. which will make the engine run warm. do no longer placed the throttle all the way as much as choke while commencing warm. you ought to additionally run the engine for a couple of minutes at idle after complicated use to allow it cool. cleansing additionally helps, holding oil/dirt enhance off the engine will enhance cooling. i'm guessing that it somewhat is a warmth challenge.
