I have a 2004 chevy impala with a 3.4 V6. I pulled out the daytime running lamps relay and the started the car without it. I saw the "Service Vehicle Soon" light in the message center come on. I shut off the car and put back the relay. I started it up and the light was gone. What causes this light to come on. i definitely know that is not a problem with the enging, otherwise the service engine soon light will come on.

Yes, if, you in fact pulled the correct relay out to disable the DRL's. Then, you should've put something(a jumper maybe) back in the complete the (especially, the relay) circuit. Otherwise, the computer system is going to read it as an in-complete circuit and throw the code, settin off the SES lite. Yes, that is the svs lite, sorry. Anyhoo,...

Why did you pull the DRL relay to start with ? With the relay removed, the computer is receiving a warning that the electrical system has a trouble code. Use an OBD-11 code reader for scanned vehicle data for verification. If the vehicle production date is after April 20, 2004 you can check with On Star or www.my gm link.com

The computer saw there was a problem with the running lamp circuit and set off the "Service VEHICLE Soon" light as a way of letting you know you have an issue with some function of the car not the "Service ENGINE" light which would be a driveability problem. Read up on it in your owner's manual. Paul

Any problem with the DRL system will set a code and cause the Service Vehicle Light to code on.
When you removed the relay, the body computer detected it as a problem and commanded the SVS light on.

the newer cars are meant to be hooked up to a computer for every little thing. if you took it to the dealer the code that would come up on the computer would tell you the daytime running lights are off.
that or you pulled the wrong relay.
