I find the snails are great at cleaning algea and left-over food in my tank, however I do agree they can be a nusience and unsightly when the population gets to large. I just fish them out with a net, and put ordinary table salt on them, killing them instantly, before throwing them in the trash. please be sure to kill them first, as you know they multiply very quickly and you don't want to introduce them to your eco-system!! You can also stick a lettuce leaf into the tank (weighed down with some gravel). The snails will gather on the lettuce to feast and you can just pull it out and dispose of it. I find doing this at night works well.
Hope this helps. If you tear your tank all apart like some suggested-it will get rid of your snail problem, but you will need to cycle your tank again, which is hard to do when it is fully stocked.

If you have a small tank, you might not have enough room for a loach - especially if you already have a lot of fish.

An easier way to control snails is to use a lettuce leaf as bait. Put the leaf on the bottom of the tank some evening and weight it down with some gravel The snails will crawl onto it overnight and you can take it and them out the next morning. If your fish try and eat the lettuce, put it inside a small plastic container and make a hole in the side big enough for the snails to get in, but not the fish. Put some gravel in the container so it doesn't float. You can do this as many times as you need to to get the snails out.

I've had that before
The only way I was able to get rid of them was to take the fish out and dump all the rocks, bleach out the tank and buy new rocks and ornaments.
Make sure the tank is rinsed very well before you put the fish back in.

Any kind of loach will eat snails. A Kuhli loach or two is ideal for a tank with smaller fish.
