If you're actually squaring the whole negative, it would be positive. However, written like -4^2, the answer is -16. This is because in order of operations, exponents come before subtraction (which would be the negative sign). to get positive 16 with the same numbers, you would have to write it like (-4)^2

The answer will be a positive integer.

Whenever you square ANYTHING, your answer will ALWAYS be positive.

The only thing you have to worry about is if you try square rooting a negative integer. You can't do that.

But you can square anything and it will always be positive.

squaring is when u multiply it by itself right
so if u multiply -9*-9 then that equals 81
because -x-=+ and -x+=-
so when you square a negative number u get positive.
