there is no longer something they could do. The gas tax holiday is a fraud (even with the reality that i think of repealing the gas tax thoroughly is a solid concept). Going after speculators is in basic terms a similar style of financial kookery that has impoverished numerous the international. there's no way that the Congress might ever repeal the regulations that make it unlawful to construct a clean refinery or enhance present refineries, the regulations that restrict drilling for oil in usa, or the Federal Reserve Act (the act that created the federal corporation that has been wrecking our distant places money for the final ninety years). there's no way that the particular hobbies that make the main of the ethanol scam will enable that counter-effective government application it somewhat is dropping gas and lowering the nutrients supply to be stopped. in view that the only place the place the Republican party's nominee needs to decrease government is in protections of straight forward civil liberties (which contain his heinous opposition to habeas corpus, which protects people from being detained indefinitely in a detention center cellular without costs on the whim of a central authority bureaucrat or the president and his longtime help for "gun administration" rules that flagrantly violate the 2d substitute and for assaults on the loose speech of people who disagree together with his place on gun rights) and has many times attacked the economics occupation, i do no longer think of electing Republicans is a solid concept. At this factor, the only determination is to look exterior of the RepublicRAT party.

Screw the government! They're part of the cause, definitely not the solution. I wish people would realize that government only makes things worse every time they stick their greedy pointed noses into what's none of their business... regardless of the fact, it's pure greed that has gas prices so damn high, and if you really want change then DO NOT BUY GAS ON 5-15-07!!! This will cost oil companies over a billion dollars of their greedy rotten profits, and I guarantee gas prices will drop within 24 hours...so "do or pay"

They are much too busy with trying to beat the Bush Administration to death and humiliate our military while they throw away all the blood and money spent trying to help Iraq recover from Saddam to worry about the high gas prices which are generating so much good tax revenue. Besides they are afraid if they do anything to bring down gas prices it will make Bush look good and jeopardize their plan to retake the White House in 2008.

What are they going to do? Get Iran to back down peacefully perhaps, or have china stop using oil? I doubt either would happen.

Perhaps they could order Bush to restore peaceful ties to all of the oil producing countries that we currently use hate language against. That would lower world oil prices by stabilizing the market, if Bush would obey.

The Congress doesn't control the price of gas. OPEC sets the price of oil. Also supply and demand.

Wasn't that one of the great promises they made if we voted for them?! And didn't they spend thousands of hours putting the president down for this very thing?! Now they say the very same thing we said all along!! But, a promise is a promise isn't it?

Why isn't the American public smart enough to drive high mileage cars and build an efficient commuter transportation system-have we become so weak and befuddled that we think Congress is the only answer?

The largest percent of gas prices can be attributed to state and federal gas taxes, not the oil companies.
