In australia we have many group organised rides, toy runs (for the Salvo's or Vinnies) at Xmas time, blanket runs for those charities as well in winter, we have the Snowy ride just before summer hits to raise money for the "Steven Walter Fund" for the Childrens Cancer Institue of Australia Most states have a ride for breast cancer awareness, others ride to raise money for the deaf foundation. The lists go on. Most riders attend these rides as you have a whole group of riders together & you get to talk to people about their rides compare notes and generally have fun as well as do something good for a cause.
Most times all you have to do is visit your local motorcycle dealer or go online to find out more about where & when these runs are going to take place.
So once again motorcycle riders show their community spirit in doing these things to help others

I am a biker and I ride for me. If I had a choice, I would ride for charities. Bikes are no different than you and the only thing that MAY be different is that we like riding motorcycles. Its like comparing bikers to people who drive a SUV. We really ain't no differnet except for the vehicle between our legs. Women ride too.

Go figure?

Though most of the publicity received by motorcyclists seems to revolve around those sorts of events. There are a lot of cruiser riders that hit these events on a regular basis. It is a form of social interaction. I might hit one such event a year - usually for a cause I truely believe in. I find them dangerous, because there are a lot of bikes, and many riders with marginal riding skills.

Most motorcyclist's riding is done simply to enjoy the ride. We find the most interesting roads in the area, and go out and enjoy them. Other groups enjoy taking long distance tours on bikes. Some folks find enjoyment in getting a on-road/off-road bike (dual sport) and hitting the dirt trails. It is a very diverse sport, with lots of options.

I would have to say it's a major contributor for why we ride and a good cause, but most people ride for the freedom, sense of power, and fun a motorcycle dispenses.

We ride because we enjoy it. However, we do ride in poker runs and that is usually for charities. It can get expensive though

Nope, those rides usually cost money, but include some sort of extras like lunch or a t-shirt. I ride for free all the time.

I believe so based on the increased number of non-motorcycle organizations (Chamber of Commerce, Womens Shelter, etc.) that are sponsoring poker runs and rallys.
