I want to know too, i live in Adelaide and i find alot of people from other countries think Australia is great, I'm just like "yeah it's OK, once you're here long enough, the novelty will wear off" but i' guessing coz it's so different and so far away to any other place in the world.

You know why the same as I do Its the place that they say there are only two type of people in the world Australians and those who would like to be .We have a decent system of care we have good weather we don't have too many uncontrolled medical problems we have a democracy.~~ Love it myself.

This is for bcooper who answered your question and stated there are no trees or animals in America. Wrong, wrong, wrong. As for the obsession with Australia, I didn't know there was one. A lot of commercials on t.v. advertise with things from down under. You know how tourists can be.

Well, I think it is because you guys and gals seem to have a very laidback lifestyle. Not all uptight and stiff like most Americans. It does also help that you have cute-looking animals!

I dont know, that place scares the crap outta me (sorry!) It seems live Australia is home to the world's deadliest everything...spiders, jellyfish, sharks, tazmanian devils and dont get me started on the crabs that come out in the summer (?) and crawl over and on any and everything! No thanks, think I'll stay home!

My theory is this: In the mid-eighties there was a big Australia fascination-- koalas, "Crocodile Dundee", etc.; and now there's a facination with the eighties!
