by definition from the national weather service, for a thunderstorm to be classed as severe, it must do one of the following; produce hail 3/4 inch in diameter, have damaging winds in excess of 50 knots, or have the presense of a tornado; although extremely dangerous, and the most deadly, flash flooding is not considered a criterium for a severe thunderstorm

tornadoes
hurricanes
hail
blizards
mansoons
typhons
