I have an idea, but I want to see what other people think. ( I think it would be the Israelis and Palestineans (formerly Philistines)).

I said peoples, not sexes, sheesh. Also, those of you who said that I was wrong about the Isrealis and Palestineans, the Israelis are the descendents of the Israelites, the Palestineans are the descendents of the the Philistines.

The Jewish people in the middle east and the arabs have not been consistently at war. The most recent woes started in 1947. Before that many centuries were peaceful.

My guess , and only an educated guess at best, would be the constant war and conflict between the Shiite and the Sunni....and now some highlights.

It starts here - 632: Muhammad dies. Abu Bakr is chosen as caliph, his successor. A minority favors Ali. They become known as Shiat Ali, or the partisans of Ali.

Continues - 656: Ali becomes the fourth caliph after his predecessor is assassinated. Some among the Muslims rebel against him.

Gets worse - 661: Violence and turmoil spread among the Muslims; Ali is assassinated.

Then...tribal war erupts on large scaloe. - 680: Hussein, son of Ali, marches against the superior army of the caliph at Karbala in Iraq. He is defeated, his army massacred, and he is beheaded. The split between Shia and Sunnis deepens. Shia consider Ali as their first Imam, Hussein as the third Imam.

So, this is 1,300 plus years of hatred, discrimination, cold war and all out war between two Muslim sects. Tribal war.....bad JuJu.

No, Philistines and modern Palestinians have nothing in common. Also, Israel did not exist until 1947, so there were no Israelies before that.

The longest conflict probably took place between the ancient Chinese and the nomadic Mongolian tribes living to the north of the Great Chinese Wall.

If off and on can mean a lapse of thousands of years with out fighting then it is the peoples of Iraq. The civilizations there had wars before Abraham left Ur.

You are right, for over 2,000 years they have been at war. It started as the then called Israelites and Philistines. Although they go by different names now, they are still at war.

What about the Greeks and Turks? They've hated each other forever, and while the Cyprus issue isn't flared up right now, it's still ongoing.
