Most routers can be used with a cable or dsl connection, but it would be best to check the manufacturers website on your model just to be sure.

Also going to another country the thing you need to be prepared for is the power outlets. Do they use 110VAC or 220VAC? If it is different then what you use at home then you need to purchase a power converter as routers, unlike computers, do not use power adapters that can use multiple voltages to power your computer. Most routers only have a single voltage adapter.

Also you may need to purchase a outlet adapter so your power plug will fit into the wall outlet.

As long as you have an ethernet connection from the ISP, which most all do, you can use the router. You may have a problem with the power supply in a different country though. Different countries have different voltages and different plugs.

Good luck,

A dsl router will not connect to cable and vice versa. From country to country most dsl equipment will interchange, although some non-standard isps (talk-talk UK for one) sometimes call for a firmware update before the login works. The same applies to cable, although this is more standardized.
